Joe retired from a career with the United States Border Patrol in January 2005. With over twenty years of service, Joe held various positions in the agency such as canine handler/instructor and supervisor at Sierra Blanca and Fort Hancock Stations. In addition, he held other management/leadership positions such as Assistant Patrol Agent in Charge at Fort Hancock, Texas; Patrol Agent in Charge at Lordsburg, New Mexico and Patrol Agent in Charge of the El Paso Sector Intelligence Unit.
